Ethan Magoc

I am currently a 21-year-old senior at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., majoring in Communication with a concentration in New Media.

During the 2010-11 school year, I serve as Editor-in-Chief for The Merciad, where I help to develop content ideas, shoot photos and video and write in-depth articles for a daily online platform and weekly print newspaper. At Mercyhurst, I have also worked as The Merciad’s Multimedia Editor, Marketing Videographer for the varsity football program, video editor for the 2009-10 digital Senior Annual, and as student producer/editor of video content at the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center.

Off campus, I completed a six-month production internship during summer 2010 with the Erie SeaWolves, where I alternated between operating cameras and directing/switching a nightly five-camera broadcast for Jerry Uht Parks’ video board. Additionally, I created graphics, directed lighting setups during video shoots and edited nightly game highlights.

I also work as an independent contractor for Triumphant Life Church teaching Final Cut Pro and providing other technical assistance for its weekly television show.

As for the past, I spent two years as a journalism major at Bowling Green State University, writing and shooting photos for The BG News, while gaining skills as a videographer and production assistant at WBGU-PBS. In 2008 and 2009, I spent a total of 24 weeks as a reporting intern at the Erie Times-News, earning the chance to gain professional news and sports clips with my hometown newspaper. I continue to work part-time for the Times-News sports department to further build my photography, reporting and multimedia portfolios.

I am available for photography, reporting and video production freelance assignments throughout Northwestern Pennsylvania.
