The above 30-second time lapse was recorded on Feb. 10, 2010 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. through a window at my 41st Street Mercyhurst College apartment.
After arriving home from class on another dreary February afternoon, I decided to set up my tripod, 7D and intervalometer for the rest of the evening. Since my roommates would also be in the living room turning on and off lights and the television for much of the day, I attached a lens hood around the 18-55 and used gaffer’s tape to make sure there would be no glare on any of the photos.
I ended up recording more than 1,000 frames during the 7-hour period. It’s interesting to watch the color of the scene change throughout the 30-second sequence, as it goes from a winter gray to evening blue to that golden color that lights Mercyhurst’s entire campus throughout the night.
I might return to this scene again before the schoolyear ends to see what it would look like for a few hours on a sunny spring afternoon.
Stay tuned later this week for my February installment of the photo-a-day series.
